Business Focussed Maintenance

The AUE is now entering the second phase of its BFM initiative with BSRIA.

Subsequent to BSRIA producing the pilot report at the University of Wolverhampton in May, it was circulated for comment, and meetings have been held at BSRIA to discuss the way forward.

AUE Member Universities are now invited to participate in the second phase and expressions of interest are required by the end of January 2012 - now only a few days away!

AUE Member Survey - Take part in the debate

AUE Member Survey – The debate

During November 2011, a group formed of executive and non-executive members met to discuss and analyse the results of the member survey which we conducted in early 2011, the results of which were presented at Conference in summary and have been published in full on the web site.

The discussion, both on the day and following, was interesting and concluded in the creation of the document “Refreshing and Renewing Our Aims”.

You are now invited, as members, to take part in this discussion and debate.

The purpose of this document is to enable the Association to develop and agree a strategy and action plan for the next 5 years.

The survey polled 18% of the membership.  We need you to take full part in this debate; therefore we have created a forum, within the Members’ Area, where you can express your opinion.

Simply, we are asking whether you agree or disagree with the document in part or in full and, in either case, why, and what you think of each point, individually or overall.

We are seeking your approval and mandate to take forward this document as the basis for the Association’s future direction, so please get involved.

Please log into the Members’ Area and then take part via the Discussion Forum link on the left.

AUE Conference

The 2011 AUE Conference was held in Edinburgh in September. The theme for the Conference was Engineering the Old and New and delegates enjoyed some excellent speaker sessions. The presentations given are now available on the 2011 Conference Page.

The AGM was held during the Conference - click here to read the Minutes.

The feedback summaries from the Edinburgh Conference are now available in the Members' Area.

A summary of the member survey was presented at the 2011 conference by Chairman Daren Bezants and copies of the summary presentation and survey results are posted here.

The Conference would not be able to take place without the support of our sponsors and exhibitiors, to whom we extend our grateful thanks. Click here to see the list of those involved.

The next AUE Conference will be held at Keele University from 5 to 7 September 2012 and planning is already well under way.

AUE 2012 Exhibition Bookings site is now open at www.keele-conferencemanagement.com/aue2012exhibition and the conference team will be pleased to hear from potential exhibitors.

News from the Executive

At the meeting of the Executive Committee held on 24 November 2011, a number of proposals were discussed which it is hoped will further enhance our professionalism, be more democratic, and enable all our members to participate more in the running of the Association.

Amongst these were changes to the timing and format of the AGM and to the election of officers to the Executive. Click here to read more about the proposals.

Electrical and Mechanical Guides

The Guides for the provision of electrical and mechanical services, prepared for the AUE by Hulley & Kirkwood, are now available in the Members' Area. The intention of these guides is to enable you to simply pull together a document you can use for small to medium sized projects, as well as provide guidance to design teams for larger projects. Each guide can be used on its own or in combination with any of the other guides.
