Peter Furniss has been involved in engineering from his early days as Student Apprentice with AEI, where he then became Site
Engineer on turbine construction projects. Subsequent to that he joined the Merchant Navy as an Engineer Officer and was promoted to Second Engineer.
When starting a family, he continued his career ashore, firstly as Building Services Engineer for GKN Technology; then as Chief Engineer for Memcom Electronics where he was involved in vacuum engineering and wrote papers on the subject. Before joining the University Sector, he worked as Senior Engineer with Allott and Lomax Consulting Engineers where he was involved in government office refurbishments, gas main infrastructure and water treatment plant.
In 1991 he joined the University of Wolverhampton as Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and subsequently as University Engineer, has taken responsibility for operation and maintenance of the M & E services of the University Estate and for its development with new buildings and services.
He is qualified as a Chartered Engineer and holds an M. Sc. in Building Services Engineering.
Peter has recently retired but still retains an active role as Secretary of the Association of University Engineers and involvement with the Professional Review panel of the Society of Operations Engineers. His leisure activities include hill walking, calligraphy and antique drawing instruments.
