What topics will be covered?

A wide range of topics will be covered including 'Restoring the Energy Performance of Closed Looped Heating Hydronic Systems' and 'Using a UPS as a secondary source for safety services'.

22nd May 2024

The next AUE 2024 Virtual CPD & KNOWLEDGE Series event, taking place on Wednesday 22nd May will focus on Using a UPS as a secondary source for safety services. You will be able to access the event platform, from 11:30, giving you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the platform and network with AUE colleagues ahead of the session, 12:00-13:00. After the session, you'll be able to visit the expo and network further using the networking carousel.

Speaker:
Alex Emms, Technical Director, Kohler Uninterruptible Power.

Synopsis:
Especially with growing restrictions on generators, the use of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems in buildings to support life safety systems is becoming increasingly important. In the event of a power outage, a UPS system provides a reliable power source to critical building systems such as evacuation lifts and emergency lighting plus those for smoke extraction and fire suppression, security and access, building management, alarms and controls. In this presentation, we will discuss the various standards, regulations, and guidelines involved in the installation and maintenance of such UPS systems, how the type of load may affect the system and additional considerations such as fault clearance.

14th February 2024

Restoring the Energy Performance of Closed Looped Heating Hydronic Systems.

Synopsis:
As the world is starting to sit up and realize the impending deadline to decarbonize - the fastest reductions are available through a more responsible approach to energy use with existing buildings. Not only does this reduce Co2 emissions and energy use, but it also futureproofs existing building stock for upgrading to electrification and other decarbonisation solutions.

There are various ways to mitigate unnecessary use, this session will present a holistic approach to restoring and optimizing the energy performance of closed loop systems, which represent over 50% of commercial buildings energy use within the UK.

With real case studies from buildings such as the landmark Heritage site ‘Somerset House,’ in London, to a 30 year old retirement living block of flats. The results of a 3 year PhD study will also be discussed.

Speaker:
Darren Wilkinson, Managing Director, Vexo International (UK) Ltd
