West Midlands Regional Chair
The Chairman of the West Midlands Region is Mark Griffiths The University of Birmingham (firstname.lastname@example.org )
Vice-Chairman - Steve Cocks of Wolverhampton University (email@example.com)
The West Midlands region of the AUE hosts Universities and FE colleges from Oxfordshire in the South, to Staffordshire in the North (and West), and Warwickshire in the East, and includes many in central England. Despite often significant differences in size, resource and type of location of each institution represented, each is subject to similar sector pressures and issues. This is where the networking, training and information and skill sharing that AUE membership brings at both regional and national levels can prove essential to colleagues across the region.
Within the region we have an active and friendly nucleus of colleagues with a wealth of technical and engineering knowledge and experience, which is readily shared with fellow members via discussion and site visits at regional meetings. All members are invited to attend and participate in these regional meetings (of which there are usually three each year, each hosted by a different regional institution), where a warm welcome awaits colleagues old and new. Outside of regional meetings members are encouraged to make use of the vast pool of knowledge, which can be accessed and shared via ‘JISCMAIL’, and also the comprehensive AUE website, both accessible to all AUE members nationally.
In my time as a member, the AUE has proven to be of great personal benefit, helping me develop my skills and knowledge within the sector as I progress through my career, and I believe institutional membership continues to provide excellent value for money for my employer. For the sector as a whole the AUE champions the Estates and Engineering causes, sharing best practice, broadening awareness of forthcoming issues and legislation affecting Higher Education, and providing a forum for member institutions to collectively agree how to best meet both the legislative and environmental challenges the sector increasingly faces.
