AUE Conference 2013

GoldsmithsThis year's AUE Conference was held at Goldsmiths, University of London, from Wednesday 4 to Friday 6 September, and the event was a huge success. The theme of the conference was Recycling of Buildings, and over 100 delegates enjoyed a varied programme of plenary sessions, with a chance to interact with other engineers and the 50 exhibitors during the breaks. There was an interesting range of tours to choose from on the first afterrnoon and the two evenings provided a good opportunity for exhibitors and delegates to network in a more informal setting.

The Gala dinner was held in the National Maritime Museum and diners were entertained by Dick Strawbridge MBE, who is well known as an energetic and versatile television presenter. The dinner was also the setting for the presentation of three awards - the Harland Roberts Award for the best apprentice/trainee was awarded to Lyn Ha of Bradford University, the Tom Bradley Award for the best member presentation at the conference went to Nigel Young of Coventry University, and the John Hallett Award, which was new this year, was awarded to Tony Hammond of Brighton University for his outstanding contribution towards the AUE website over the last 12 months. Many congratulations to them all.
