What to expect

                                                                                                Big Savings conference 2025

Workshop Sessions

Workshop Session 1A: Common Power Challenges for University Estates Aiming for Net Zero Carbon

Session Synopsis:
-    Introduction to the new UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard
-    Grid decarbonisation and grid connection
-    Introduction to typical power issues that University Estates face
-    HV solutions
-    Power planning for high demand areas such as labs

Workshop Session 1B: Driving efficiency and uptime in university pump systems

Session Synopsis:
An opportunity for the audience to understand how intelligent pumps and pump systems can solve multiple operational issues in University facilities. As well as creating tangible savings on energy costs. In addition, we will cover the means by which pumps can be monitored, to ensure they are operating at peak efficiency, potential issues are detected early, and overall provide a greater HVAC system integrity. All overlaid with a key focus on making university HVAC systems more sustainable, and reliable.

Workshop Session 2A: Decarbonisation and future design resilience for ventilation systems

Session Synopsis:
An insight into design considerations and opportunities to reduce carbon, energy and refrigerant usage while improving the indoor air quality and conditions across the University campus from leisure, to laboratories, lecture theatres to accommodation. Lowering the cost of maintaining compliant and healthy buildings.

Session presented by Systemair Ltd.

Workshop Session 2B: 4-Steps to Decarbonising Buildings: A Strategy for Achieving Net Zero

Session Synopsis:
The global imperative to mitigate climate change has spotlighted the need to decarbonise buildings. As significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, buildings offer substantial opportunities for emission reductions through energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, and innovative building technologies.
Here, we outline a comprehensive guide to decarbonising buildings in 4 steps, applicable to both new construction and existing structures.

Session presented by SSE Energy Solutions.

Workshop Session 2C: IOT and AI – intervention and condition-based maintenance – what do we want: Monitoring? Informing? Controlling?

Session Synopsis:
The world has woken up to the potential (both positive and negative) of AI.
This session will explore the potential benefits that combining IOT and AI can bring to estates maintenance, and why organisations have been slow to adopt IOT to date.
INVIDA is used by an increasing large proportion of universities as well as other sectors including: NHS, retail, manufacturing, and commercial office. We will share examples of real aims and ambitions that INVIDA is being requested to support from customers in the UK and worldwide.
The session will examine why organisations may have been slow to adopt IOT and whether AI could provide the opportunities and benefits to drive adoption.
The session will hopefully stimulate debate on what our collective short, medium and long term ambitions should be, and importantly how we should set and manage the expectations of our colleagues both within and outside of estates.

Session presented by INVIDA.
